What makes our kindergarten program special?

Is your child ready for kindergarten? Teachers at Ka Lama Iki have a deep-rooted passion to educate young learners in the community.  A Christ centered curriculum not only prepares children academically,  but spiritually.  Teachers incorporate daily Bible lessons, prayer, community outreach projects, and Christian character moments into a  learner's whole day.  The goal of the kindergarten program is to connect with each student--and create a positive learning space that helps them grow! We encourage young learners to grow through play, social interactions, and take intellectual risks.

FAQ

Q: Does our family have to be Christian or Adventist to attend?

A: No, we welcome all families across the island. We do ask that all children who attend respect the teachings of Biblical doctrine.

Q: What is the curriculum like?

A: Ka Lama Iki uses the accredited Stepping Stones literacy program used by the NAD as well as Big Ideas Math, By Design Science,  and  other helpful text and online resources that are used as tools in the classroom to enhance learning!  The philosophy of these programs are based on the belief that kindergarten is an important time of transition for young children. It is the bridge between home, early childhood education, and the primary grades of school. It is a “children’s garden” where young ones, uniquely created in God’s image, are nurtured to think, learn, choose, and grow.

Q: What is the student-teacher ratio?

A: With concerns due to COVID-19 we have a 15:1 ratio.

Q: Is financial aide available for my 'ohana?

A: Yes, we do provide financial aid when applying before March 31st. The school also accept the Kipona Scholarships.  Ka Lama Iki  offers flexible payment plan options.

Q: What is behavior management like?

A: Positive reinforcement makes all the difference when working with young children. Encouraging independence while keeping consistent boundaries is key in our classrooms.

Q: Is there before and aftercare supervision for my early/late work schedule?

A: Yes, Before care supervision begins at 6 am and aftercare runs until 5:30 pm every day..

Q: Do we serve hot lunch?

A: Yes! We provide plant-based, all vegetarian lunches to students.
